The organizers of Women Startup Competition are bringing the finals to London in 2017.
Our team is going on a roadshow around much of Europe to organize pre-finals and unplugged events in 7 European countries, including Finland, Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the UK.
Since the launch of Women Startup Competition in 2014 it has given numerous opportunities for female entrepreneurs & gender diverse startups, but also helped angel investors and venture capital investors, who have joined the initiative. “We are excited – as we announce the 4th call for applications for Women Startup Competition! We are surrounded by young, talented entrepreneurs who create innovative ideas and are keen to leave their marks in the industry; however, many of them need help to achieve international growth. We created this program in order to help these startups, of balanced and gender diverse background. We believe that we need to support equality in business and set an example for -especially- newly founded businesses.” – said Tamas Muller, founder of the competition – “2017 is the year when we are coming to London, as we believe this fast moving entrepreneurial environment provides a greater opportunity for our contestants to take the next step towards a successful future. We also hope that UK’s famous entrepreneurial and startup approach will be a good example to follow for our local angels & VC’s.”
In regards to the application, there are no thematic requirements: any idea owner, entrepreneur or startup can apply who believe that their idea might appeal to their target audience and attract investors. All applications are welcome!
The only requirement set by the organizers is, that the applicants must have at least an equal gender diversity representation (50%-50%) within the entrepreneurial team or the majority of team members have to be women (50%<) or must identify as women in a way that’s significant to them. Our previous experiences show that, ideas from all fields, including: mobile industry, biotechnology, fashion industry, art and gastronomy can be successful and receive funding through the competition. We are also really glad to see that for example, young mothers finding their way back to business – coming up with interesting solutions for kids, based on their own experiences as mothers.
Between 2014-2016, Women Startup Competition has received and professionally supported more than 300 applications from 4 continents. This year we already reached over 200 pre-registrations – and we hope this will further encourage young talents to follow this path! At the 4th Women Startup competition, we are proud to welcome a growing number of innovative, gender diverse entrepreneurs and startups to participate in this life changing experience. The 4th Women Startup Competition brings many new changes for participants, sponsors and followers of the movement. By extending the structure, beyond the online selection process and the week-long workshop-based mentoring and Demo Day teams will have an opportunity to pitch their ideas to the mentors in person. The organizers are launching regional events in 9 countries across Europe from Helsinki to Vienna to ensure that the event can welcome the best gender diverse startups from Europe.
Although, the final and Demo Day is scheduled for the 1st of July, in London, the organizers encourage teams to submit their application as soon as possible, since the team that wins the regional pre-finals will get straight through to the final in London and get to compete with the 12 finalists. One additional spot will be offered to a team nominated through public online voting.
Andrea Lukacs, organizing partner of the competition, claims in her closing words – “We are confident that we are creating a great possibility to get noticed and become successful in the constantly growing startup and investor community. We launched the competition in 2014, with the aim to attract the attention of business decision makers and highlight the importance of female participation in businesses – as one of the key players to achieve economic competitiveness – due to their talent, entrepreneurial and professional competence. We wish to encourage all teams to conquer global markets. The competition itself is not solely the reason we do this, but rather to build a gender diverse entrepreneur and investor community culture, who’s members are not only determined, but also actively cooperating, motivating and financially supporting gender diversity in our future.”
So we call out for gender diverse startups & entrepreneurs to fill out their application today – and we encourage every startup out there, to urgently find female business partner(s) before the application deadline.
